Social Security and the Income of Older Americans

Among older Americans in 2010, Social Security accounts for over half of income beginning in the 70-to-74 age group. Here is the Social Security share of the income of older Americans by age in 2010..

55 to 61:   8.2%
62 to 64:  22.6%
65 to 69:  43.6%
70 to 74:  58.2%
75 to 79:  63.9%
80-plus:   69.4%
